Sam Floyd, founder of Floyd Automations
The person behind the work

I spent a decade inside the software. I know exactly where it breaks.

Sam Floyd is the founder of Floyd Automations. He is a former Product Manager at Close CRM with over ten years as a systems admin at venture-backed startups and a military background in SOPs and documentation. Floyd Automations works exclusively with trade businesses — HVAC, plumbing, roofing, and field service.

Before starting Floyd Automations, I spent over ten years inside fast-scaling startup tech companies as a systems admin and integrations lead — the person responsible for making the tools actually work under pressure.

I was also a Product Manager at Close, an SMB CRM used by thousands of trade businesses — contractors, field service companies, and specialty trades. I watched how these businesses actually used that software every day — and how much they left on the table because nobody ever set it up right.

I come from a military background, which means I think in systems and SOPs. When I document something, your newest hire can follow it without calling you.

The most important thing I can tell you: I am not going to be here forever, and I know that going in. My job is to leave you in a better position than I found you — working software, trained team, clean documentation. That is the deal.

Why trade businesses specifically?

Because most consultants don’t understand how trades actually operate.

At Close CRM, a large share of the customer base was contractors, HVAC companies, plumbers, and field service businesses. I saw firsthand that their software problems weren’t unique to one tool — they were patterns. Mis-configured CRMs. Disconnected job management. Teams working around the software instead of with it. I started Floyd Automations because I knew what those fixes looked like, and most generalist IT consultants don’t.

We only work with trades. That means every engagement benefits from patterns we’ve seen across dozens of similar businesses — and we never waste your time learning your industry from scratch.
